Apple support fight against AIDS

On Black Friday this week, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Apple plans to give buyers of select Apple products a special (PRODUCT) RED iTunes Gift Card along with a donation from Apple to the Global Fund to support the fight against AIDS.

In support of World AIDS Day 2014, Apple will also donate a portion of sales at their retail and online stores around the world on Black Friday (November 28) and Cyber Monday (December 1).

Apple has partnered with a number of App Store developers to release special (RED) features and content across two dozen prominent apps, including Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Clear, Cut the Rope 2, Djay 2, Garage Band, Monument Valley, and Paper by Fifty Three, Star Walk 2, and Threes! All proceeds from these apps will be donated directly to the Global Fund to fight Aids.

A special section on the App Store will showcase all the customized (RED) apps (and their special red icons) for two weeks.

“Apple is a proud supporter of (RED) because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement.

“For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact. This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apple’s retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”
