Apple sells the cheapest and most expensive iPhones in India
The average price per iPhone, however, is hardly consistent from country to country. In some instances, the pricing can vary wildly depending on a number of variables, whether it is fluctuations in currency valuations or even local tax laws. Apple has downgraded the prices for iPhone 5S in the India, after launching the world’s most expensive iPhone 6S Plus in the country. Apple iPhone 5S prices in India now start at Rs 24,999 ($370), almost half of its price of Rs 44,500 ($665) in September. The price can almost touch Rs 20,000 ($299) if you buy from an online retailer stores like Amazon, Snapdeal or Flipkart.
The iPhone 5S is the best-selling iPhone in India, and accounts for almost half of the company’s iPhone sales. According to Counterpoint Research, there are an estimated 1.2 million users of the iPhone 5/5S, out of the 3.5 million iPhone users in India.
The iPhone 5S price cut is also Apple’s attempt to enter the mid-range segment of smartphones, as sales of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have declined after heavy demand during Diwali. Yet, since only 10-15% of India’s 28 million smartphone users are in this bracket, the move will not lead to any significant increase in Apple’s market share.
